Sony Open Funds Area Nonprofits

The Sony Open held back in January at Waialae Country Club helped to raise $1 million for Friends of Hawaii Charities, which recently distributed grants from the fund to more than 170 nonprofit groups across the state.

Among them are the following organizations with direct benefit to Central Oahu: Bobby Benson Center, Central Oahu Youth Services Association, Hawaii Fi-Do Service Dogs, ORI and ORI Anuenue Hale, Surfing the Nations Foundation and Waimea Valley.

The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and FHC members also donated to the fund, which has distributed more than $13 million since 1998.
