Twenty-two years later, and the block party is still going strong.

The 2014 I Love Kailua Town Party, featuring a smorgasbord of food, crafts and activities, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 on Kailua Road. Presented by Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle and Alexander & Baldwin, the party supports LKOC’s efforts to keep the area clean and green through landscaping and maintenance projects.

In order to get in on the day’s culinary festivities, attendees need to buy a $5 party button, either at the festival or in advance, from one of 30 Kailua businesses, including Longs Drugs, Hardware Hawaii and First Hawaiian Bank. The button acts as an allday pass for food at the event. Commemorative T-shirts also are available for $15 each.

Live on stage will be the Pacific Fleet Band, Puamana, Pattye’s Hula Studio and more, while art and handmade crafts will be on display from 50 Windward vendors. Also planned are orchid and plant sales, Kamaaina Kids-hosted rides and activities, community information booths and exhibits, and a mini health fair with free screenings from Castle Medical Center.

But foodies won’t want to miss the Taste of Kailua, where food vendors converge to bring all the eats of the Windward side into one handy location at the party. Agnes’ Portuguese Bake Shop, Baskin Robbins, Big City Diner, Bob’s Pizzeria, Buzz’s Original Steakhouse, Cactus Restaurant, Cake Lava, Cinnamon’s Restaurant, Crepes No Ka Oi, Formaggio Grill, Frozen Fun Mobile, India Café Curry Express, Jus’ Right Kettle Corn Popcorn, Los Garcia’s Mexican Food, May’s Hawaii, P. Mini Donuts, Tat’s Shaved Ice, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Whole Foods Market will all set up shop for hungry celebrants.

LKOC encourages attendees to walk or bike to the party, particularly because the event will close some streets. All traffic lanes and sidewalks on Kailua

Road from Hahani Street to Kuulei Road, in front of Longs, Macy’s and Kailua Shopping Center, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking will be open in the lot fronting Longs (enter from Hahani Street, near Teddy’s Bigger Burgers).
