Red Cross Hawaii Turns 95

The American Red Cross, Hawaii chapter celebrated 95 years of service to the community last month at the Plaza Club. In 1917, Queen Liliuokalani sewed a Red Cross flag that soared above Iolani Palace during WWI, while volunteers rolled bandages in the Throne Room for the war relief effort. During WWII, Hawaii Red Cross volunteers transported medical supplies, fed those displaced, and cared for the wounded. The Hawaii Red Cross responds to every major disaster to strike Hawaii, as well as local emergencies that arise every four days.
