Be Prepared For House Fire Exit

A house on Pule Place in St. Louis Heights that was fully engulfed in flames last month brought a rush of support from the Red Cross and kept volunteers busy helping affected residents and making sure their needs were met that day and beyond, as the wooden structure was a total loss.

The July 20 incident caused Hawaii Red Cross to remind island families “to make a disaster plan to include an evacuation plan with two different routes of escape.” In its public statement, the nonprofit agency also advised residents to have a communications plan, a disaster supplies kit at the ready, and other means to ensure that all occupants are reunited, safely, as soon as possible.

For detailed information on these proactive tasks, call the local headquarters on Diamond Head Road at 734-2101, or visit redcross.org/hawaii for a brochure.
