A new year means new, healthier beginnings, so Malama Learning Center will offer a healthy cooking workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 31 to support the cause.

Cynthia A. Murakami Pratt will discuss how to prepare and cook healthy meals during the workshop at Kapolei High School.

She will offer up recipes such as kabocha and sweet potato soup, fresh corn polenta, roasted head of cauliflower, fried noodle cake with kale salad and onion-ginger dressing, and baked apple chips with yogurt sauce. The menu is subject to change depending on ingredients available.

A former culinary arts teacher at Kapolei High who still loves developing new recipes, Pratt is author of From the Heart of Hawaii’s Families cookbook.

Participants will take home nine healthy recipes for the whole family to enjoy.

Fee for the workshop, which is located in Building J, Room 109 and 110 on the high school campus, is $15 per person or $40 for families of up to three people. An additional $5 will be collected on site to cover the cost of ingredients.

The class, sponsored by Hawaiian Electric Co., welcomes children ages 5 and up as well.
