PetSmart Opens At Town Center

PetSmart, the largest specialty pet retailer in the United States, is opening its first Hawaii location Feb. 4 at the former Kaiser clinic at Mililani Town Center.

The 15,000-square-foot store will employ 21 associates and will stage its official grand opening Feb. 9 with a “speed dating” adoption event. Prospective families can begin meeting the available pets at 8:15 a.m. with adoptions beginning at 10.

The adoption event is part of the store’s partnership with Hawaiian Humane Society (HHS) and Oahu SPCA. PetSmart donates space to HHS for daily, in-store cat adoptions, and the humane society will bring in adoptable dogs each weekend. According to company reports, PetSmart has funded more than $165 million to animal welfare organizations since 1994, and has helped save 5 million animals. Locally, PetSmart Charities has provided grants totalling $39,000 to the Hawaii Island Humane Society, $33,000 to 9th Life on Maui, and $2,500 to Kauai Humane Society.

In addition to pet supplies, the store will have grooming and training services. For details, call 489-9231.
