The veteran kumu hula is proud of her roots, as she was born and raised on the Windward side of O‘ahu in Kahalu‘u. She attended Kah- alu‘u Elementary, Waiāhole Elementary and Intermedi- ate and Castle High schools. Aside from teaching hula, Lam Ho works as a reserva- tions supervisor at Ala Moa- na Honolulu by Mantra and is going on 49 years in the hospitality industry — she loves what she does and es- pecially enjoys meeting and helping guests.

nity to have my hālau here. Key Project is where we all call home.”
Haumāna are taught not only hula but the Hawaiian culture.
my doors. No one needs to be perfect,” Lam Ho says. “Just come and enjoy our hula and our hula ‘ohana. That’s what makes us so spe- cial: we are all one ‘ohana of the same feather.”
Lam Ho explains that Ho‘omaika‘i Hula Studio’s doors are open year-round to anyone who wants to join, and that those who join are welcomed with open arms as members of the “hula ‘oha- na.”
“We enter only one com- petition a year, and haumā- na are taught to share their love for hula with everyone and enjoy their time meeting those from other hālau; it’s not a competition, it’s about sharing your love for hula with others. I am forever grateful for all the haumāna whom have passed through
