• COMPOST A compost sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Kainalu El- ementary School (located at 165 Kaiholu St.) in Kai- lua. Attendees should enter through the back gate along Kainalu Drive. The event is presented by the Windward Zero Waste School Hui. All proceeds benefit partici- pating schools. The cost of compost is $15 per cubic foot, which is a compressed 5-gallon bucketful. Custom- ers should bring their own containers such as buckets, totes, bags, etc. Vermicast worm castings will be sold in 5-pound containers for $20. A special blend com- post tea kit will also be available with everything needed to brew five 5-gal- lon batches of compost tea to treat plants to a rich mi- crobe and nutrient-packed soil drench. • HISTORY Kāne‘ohe PAL (Police Activities League) volleyball regis- tration will be held Feb. 11

• CHALLENGE Feb. 14 is the last day for The Dr. Jacquie Maly $20,000 Challenge for scholarships at Windward Community College. Professor emerita Maly will match people’s donations dollar-for-dollar up to $20,000 when they give to the Windward Com- munity College Scholar- ship Endowment. • SWIMMING In- fant Swimming Resource Self-Rescue lessons for keiki ages 6 months to 6 years old will begin on Feb. 21. The classes will teach survival swimming skills. • RECYCLING ʻĀhuim- anu Elementary School will hold an Aloha ‘Āina recy- cling drive from 9 to 11 a.m. onFeb.25.Itemsaccepted include all types of scrap metal (no propane tanks), batteries, TVs, computers, printers, scanners and mon- itors. Other items accepted are confidential documents in locked bins to be shred- ded off-site, HI-5 alumi- num cans, plastic and glass bottles, printer cartridges and toner. Accepted items will also include laptops, game systems, cameras, cell phones, reusable clothing and household items, used cooking oil in sealed con- tainers, new and gently used furniture, building materials, appliances, tools and cabi- nets.
