ince first putting down roots nearly 20 years ago, the fruitful GoFarm Hawai‘i program has branched out to help bud-
ding farmers learn about all aspects of the industry, from the science of growing crops to the business end of sustaining a company.
GoFarm Hawaiʻi originally started in 2003 as the Agribusiness Incubator Program. It was an initiative within the University of Hawaiʻi College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. The original goal of AIP was to provide technical assistance and busi- ness support to local agricultural producers and businesses.
As the program grew, it became appar- ent that there was a need for a “beginning farmer” training track that featured a hands- on, science-based curriculum, which also included business and financial training to help farmers grow and sustain their oper- ations. In 2012, the GoFarm Hawaiʻi Be- ginning Farmer Training Program launched and is still housed under the University of Hawaiʻi CTAHR umbrella, as valuable training is provided for those who would
