n enduring love of kids and sports has kept 91-year-old lifelong He‘eia resident Alice Hewett going strong
throughout the decades.
Known as beloved Auntie Alice in the
Kāne‘ohe community, she still volunteers with Honolulu Department Police Activities League (PAL) after 60 years of serving with the organization that offers a wide range of sports for youth. She’s also been active for 50 years in Kāne‘ohe Little League and a multitude of other community sports groups. She was president of the Kāne‘ohe Canoe Club for two years.
“Whatever it was, it was all sports. Ev- erything had to do with sports and children, from 5 years old to 14,” Hewett notes. “I do it because I love to do it, with the kids.”
Hewett also has nine children of her own, who have been active in sports and coaching themselves. She also has numerous grand- children and great-grandchildren currently involved in athletics, from volleyball to bas- ketball and more. Among Hewett’s sons is
