 Waikīkī Hotel Showcases Makakilo Resident’s Artwork

Makakilo resident Eduardo Bolioli dropped out of a visu- al arts school in New York City more than 35 years ago in search of something differ- ent. He ended up in Hawaiʻi, where he chased his dreams of painting surfboards for a living. Fast-forward to to- day, and the Uruguay native, who has an extensive career in the worldwide art realm, is the man behind Outrigger Waikīkī Beach Resort’s latest second-lobby exhibit, Gold- en Dreams.
“Initially, it was to trib- ute the first time that surfing would be an Olympic sport,” explains Bolioli. “The whole idea was to have a show in Tokyo with a dozen surf- boards portraying the 12 most iconic surfers from all eras, but COVID happened and everything got canceled. Then, a few months ago, I found some notes I’d taken from a documentary (about) the importance of surfing to this community, so I decided to resurge the idea and find a place in Waikīkī where I
