 Lanikūhonua Remains A Hub For Hawaiian Culture, Tradition

 With a name that trans- lates to “where heaven meets Earth,” It’s no wonder that Alice “Kamokila” Camp- bell, daughter of develop- er James Campbell, chose Lanikūhonua as her private residence at Ko Olina. Aside from its stunning beauty, the area is rich in history, and Kamokila made it her mis- sion to “preserve, display and promote the cultural tra- ditions in Hawai‘i.”
“We have events here to help us support these cultur- al programs and upkeep the property,” explains Lloyd, adding that the for-profit ele- ments Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute provides go straight back into its overarching mission to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture.
Currently, nonprofit Lan- ikūhonua Cultural Institute aims to do much of the same, while also adding an element of education to its offerings.
There are romantic pack- ages for weddings, proposals and elopements, as well as opportunities for corporate events, custom programs and a la carte rentals — all of which follow the current city, state and federal health and safety mandates. Also of note is the ever-popular Mele & Hula benefit event that highlights local enter- tainers.
Prior to the pandemic, the nonprofitextendedallkinds of experiential and hands- on teaching moments to students all over the island, as well as families and vis- itors. Currently, those many programs are not available,
