JUNE 15, 2022 MIDWEEK 7
There are so many things a father’s love gives us — confi- dence, security and motiva- tion, just to name a few. Their teachings set an example and guide our decision making as well as create an environment for us to thrive and be our best selves. We celebrate the men in our lives who set the bar so high for all others who come into our paths.
dads have passed to their fu- ture generations. Happy Fa- ther’s Day, Dads!
“I recently lost my dad, right before COVID hit. As with anyone who has lost someone, it’s tough to pro- cess and adjust, but also it allows me to reflect on all the things I learned from his life. My dad would tell me things like, ‘Take care of your friends and family. It’s im- portant to be happy. You’re so lucky! Go out and have fun, try new things, and enjoy the adventure.’ Everything was considered an adventure in his book. So, I just wanted to say thank you, Dad, for
always taking care of me and our family, and I’ll see you on the next adventure.”
Joseph “Nuoli” Dowson Mililani
“The greatest lesson that my dad, Romeo Soriano Collado, has taught me is to always find a reason to smile and laugh. If you can’t find the reason, create one.”
Romy Collado Waipahu
“My dad, Dave Monahan, the funniest and most hum- ble human being I’ ve ever known, taught me the value of humor and humility. He was and remains my hero.”
Sue Larkin Honolulu
“My father, Benjamin Robledo Misalucha, was a strong influence in my life. He gave us a solid spiritual foundation, emphasized the importance of family, taught us to dream and aspire to greatness.”
State Sen. Bennette Misalucha ‘Aiea
“My father always demonstrated what we called ‘Dad’s aloha’! Our home was always wel- come to friends, family and strangers. I recall Mormons knocking on our door and Dad inviting them in for cold pineapple juice.”
Patty Sherman Honolulu
“The greatest lesson that my father taught me grow- ing up was to always have the character and integrity of someone that displays hones- ty and humbleness. He is such a role model to me and my seven siblings. We all strive to be like him every day.”
Jenna Allen Waikele
“My dad was Sancho ‘Sandy’ Espina. He was the kindest man I ever met and his biggest lesson to me was to treat others kindly and for- give those who wrong you.”
Carolyn Stanton Honolulu
“The greatest lesson my dad taught me is to do an
honest day’s work and to take pride in whatever you do. Treat everyone with respect and be true to yourself.”
Stagg Yamaguchi ‘Āina Haina
