6 MIDWEEK MARCH 23, 2022
Couple Pays It Forward In A ‘Big’ Way
  Dear Darah,
My wife and I just returned from a much-needed outing — a brunch at Big City Diner Pearlridge. As seniors, we seem to have doctor’s ap- pointments weekly. With the COVID situation, we have been stay-at-home people since the beginning of the pandemic. After our testing, we walked over to the diner and found we were an hour early for their new opening time of 10 a.m. We went back to the car, but instead of go- ing home, we decided to wait. At 9:45, we walked back and found a couple sitting on the bench outside waiting for
the diner to open. They dis- played their kindness and aloha right away by moving over and warning us not to sit as the bench was wet from the rain. The woman stood upandgaveusadryareato sit. We talked story, laughed and joked like meeting old friends. Good old-style warmth and aloha. The doors opened and we were seated at different ends of the room. No pancakes available so we opted for a slightly heavier meal — loco mocos!
them both for their gener- osity. We were so caught off guard we did not learn their names! I often read in your column how recipients of good deeds or kind acts do not catch the people’s names and used to think, “How can?” Well, can! We wanted to let them know their kind- ness is deeply appreciated and made a beautiful start to our day. A kindness we will pay forward.
Allan and Kaala Jay ‘Aiea
Dear Allan and Kaala,
Dear Darah,
We had an extremely smooth and enjoyable expe- rience working with Johnson Mukaida. He is a true profes- sional and cares deeply about his clients. We were first-time homebuyers and new to the Hawai‘i market, and Johnson was there to help us at each step of the process. Mahalo nui, Johnson!

Congratulations on your new home, and thank you for your service to our country. Mukaida says, “I absolutely love helping peo- ple buy or sell their homes.
It’s such a wonderful feel- ing handing over keys to new owners or selling a home for clients to start their next journey. I always do my best to give my cli- ents the knowledge they need and deserve to make the best decisions and have a great experience at the same time.”
Is there someone you’d like to thank? Mail letters to MidWeek c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moana Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalonuiwithdar- ah@gmail.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her.
When we asked for our check, we were informed that our meals were paid for. You guessed it. We made a beeline for their table and thanked
I am reassured every week when I receive such beautiful “Mahalo Nui” letters that Hawai‘i people rock!
Have you ever read the book, The Five Love Lan- guages? Well, anyone who grew up in Hawai‘i could probably add a sixth — food!
Whether it’s family and friends sharing a meal at your home, treating some- one to lunch or picking up someone’s tab, I am reas- sured every week when I receive such beautiful “Mahalo Nui” letters that Hawai‘i people rock!
