Expanded EMS Services Celebrated
In honor of National Emergency Medical Services Week in May, Mayor Rick Blangiardi recognized the city’s paramedics and emergency medical technicians for their life-saving work. Along with city councilmembers Augie Tulba, Calvin Say and Carol Fukunaga, Blangiardi announced the expansion of response hours in ‘Ewa Beach and Maikiki from 12 hours to 24 hours. In 2020, there were 3,510 responses to 911 calls in Makiki and 2,357 in ‘Ewa Beach. “We had to make it a priority to get these two communities 24-hour emergency medical services,” says Honolulu Emergency Services director Jim Ireland. New Hope Leeward Donates To HUGS
Richelle Doctolero of New Hope Leeward (right) presented HUGS executive director, Joan Naguwa, with a donation of $5,000 for airfare assistance and postage stamps from the church’s Forever Stamps Drive. New Hope Leeward has been a HUGS supporter for the past four years. HUGS — which stands for Help, Understanding & Group Support — provides a variety of assistance services for families with seriously ill children, including help with airfare for families that need to travel for life-saving treatments.
