Of course, I ended up watching it.
This superhero thing is never going to end, is it? With decades of source material and unquestionable profitability, I don’t see it going anywhere, especially now that Disney learned to “super”-impose he-

My second takeaway is Sebastian Stan (the Winter Soldier) is a really good actor. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t see more of this in the pre- vious Avengers stories when he served as a metal-armed,
costumed in stars and stripes? I like that it takes Bucky Barnes a while to understand this. As a viewer, it took me a while to truly understand as well.

Afew weeks ago, when I picked up my older daughter from school, she started talking about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. She thought it was good. I told her that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch it. She pointed out that I’ d seen every other Aveng- ers-related movie and series, so why not? One guy with a metal arm and the other guy with metal wings, that’s why. I like my superheroes power- ful and have little interest in window-dressing weaklings.
The Falcon and the Winter
Soldier is set soon after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Sam Wilson (Falcon) decides to give up the shield that Cap- tain America gave him. It’s headed for the Smithsonian. Meanwhile, Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier) is busy right- ing the wrongs he’s unwitting- ly committed in the past.

brainwashed plot device more than anything else. But I’m glad we’re seeing it now. I think he has the kind of juice to eventually propel him to leading man status.
Now, my first takeaway from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is that if I were offered super-serum, I would take it in a second. (Falcon, you fool!) Captain America strength and speed? You wouldn’t need to ask me twice. I don’t care about the psychological effects. I’ m half cuckoo already anyway.
As for the story itself, I mean, it’s pretty good. I like the idea of Sam Wilson not really knowing why he resists becoming the next Captain America. It’s not just because it’s big shoes (or a big shield) to fill. A part of it is, despite the fact that he’s a vet, he’s a black man in America. And what does it say about the country if anyone — white, black or shades in between — thinks non-white would look strange

roes onto tried and true genres (sitcom, cop buddy, teen dra- ma, action-comedy). So, keep it coming, Marvel Universe. Apparently, I can’t help but watch. And if I stop, my daugh- ter will call me on it anyway.
