When 12-year-old David King and his mom, Chris, were hiking the lengthy Waimano Ridge Trail recent- ly, they came across a couple and their dog, Smokey, who was lying on the ground. According to nonprofit Best Friends Animal Society, the dog’s paws were cut and he couldn’t walk. Given that he’s 100 pounds, his humans couldn’t carry him, either. So, David created a stretch- er using tree branches and T-shirts, a skill he learned from being in Boy Scouts of America. Everyone reached the parking lot safely. Way to go, David ...
