cipients of the inaugural ‘Aiea and Pearl City Community Heroes Awards. The hon- ors were announed April 21 by grassroots organization Kanu Hawaiʻi and the office of state Sen. Bennette Misalucha of District 16. It also coincided with Volunteer Week Ha- waiʻi.
Tamamoto has served as a volunteer lead- er in her community of ‘Aiea for more than 20 years. She has been a crucial part of ef- forts to create affordable kūpuna housing on land where the former ‘Aiea Sugar Mill sat. In addition, she serves as president for a number of community groups such as the ʻAiea Community Association, ʻAiea Pony Baseball League and many more.
Ali‘i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club presi- dent Kehaulani Lum nominated Tamamoto for the honor.
