itage month, her company is partnering with renowned Filipino fashion designer Amir Sali to present “EX- QUISITE: A Walk of Great International Men and Wom- en of Courage and Indepen- dence,” which will showcase his Holiday Collection 2023- 2024 at Hilton Hawaiian Vil- lage Waikīkī Hotel.

munity College School of Fashion students, they will have the opportunity to not only assist in dressing the models but also talk with Sali.
Known for her bold colors and 5-to-7-inch heels, East Oʻahu resident Sarah Hosaka knows how to make an im- pression. For her, clothes are a form of self-expression that add a boost of confidence.
“That’s one thing that we can actually have the audience look forward to, how the bead works and how we can incor- porate all these different mate- rials and different facets of em- bellishments,” Hosaka says.
“He’s willing to share his knowledge with everyone and that’s what his goal and mission is: to preserve (the craft). The craft is not auto- matic, it’s not like everything is easy. (It’s about) how you do it the quality way, it’s not just a machine,” Hosaka says. “Beading is a dying craft, so we just wanted to make sure that that continues, and in or- der for (younger generations) to learn that, they have to see the creations and the em- bellishments in-person for them to appreciate every single detail that’s being put on each gown.”
“I just love to dress up. It doesn’t matter to me if other people think of me different- lyorhowIlookortheway I dress up, but I feel confi- dent if I carry any type of clothing,” Hosaka says while wearing a hot pink dress and in full makeup.
There will be 15 distin- guished guests from the Philip- pines, plus 15 models from Ha- waiʻi, including Kristian Lei.
Sali is nicknamed the “Prince of Beads” for his skills in beading and embel- lishments, which come from 20 years of experience in Saudi Arabia, where he de- signed nearly 40-80 gowns every month for the princess. To further hone his abilities, the princess sent him to Paris, France, for two to three years to study fashion.

Hosaka’s love for fashion — as well as entertainment — led her to establish and become the president of En Vogue Productions LLC.
The holiday collection fea- tures around 40-45 pieces, ranging in red, white, gold and blue colors. Each of the gowns — down to the de- tailed beading — is hand- made. One dress may require the efforts of four to six peo- ple and take many months to fully complete.
