    Kūpuna Spelling Bee Takes Place In July
Heard the latest buzz? East O‘ahu residents age 60 and up can show off their spelling skills at the inaugural Kūpuna Spell- ing Bee this summer. The event, which will raise funds for Alzheimer’s As- sociation Hawai‘i, is slated for July 23.
groups (60-69 years old, 70-79 years old, and age 80 and older), and preliminary spelling bees will be held in May and June in-person and on Zoom. Cost is $10 to enter. Two winners from each category will elevate to the final round in July for a chance to win a pair of round-trip plane tickets.
“We encourage senior living facilities, churches, schools, businesses and clubs on all the islands to organize a preliminary contest and help to recruit seniors to participate,” states Justin George, direc- tor of development for the Alzheimer’s Association Hawai‘i.
