Apilot program that allows local res- idents to enter Hanauma Bay Nature Pre- serve without a reservation continues through Aug. 8. Launched by the city Depart- ment of Parks and Recreation, the program is an effort to accommodate local residents while maintaining the im- proved marine environment created by a reduced number of people at the nature pre- serve. The schedule was de- signed to provide DPR with a sample of local traffic into the preserve without overloading the numbers going into the bay while public schools are in and out of session. “Al- though we have seen a slight uptick in the percentage of lo- cal residents enjoying Hanau- ma Bay compared to pre-pan- demic numbers, we want to make this natural treasure even more available to ka- ma‘āina,” states Laura Thei- len, DPR director. Residents must provide a valid photo ID to prove their residency. Out- of-state residents must still make reservations at pros4. hnl.info/hanauma-bay ...
