igh school mock trial is nothing to joke about. Whatever level students join the team at, they are guaranteed
to leave with better critical thinking and pub- lic speaking skills, and the ability to work as a team.
Mililani High School’s mock trial team placed third at the statewide High School Mock Trial semifinal and final rounds on April 1, after an undefeated season. The event took place at the Supreme Court Courtroom Ali‘iōlani Hale in Honolulu where Mililani’s two teams faced Moanalua High School’s two teams and Island School from Kaua‘i.
Since October, students worked within teams to conduct a hypothetical courtroom trial with materials supplied by the Hawai‘i State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Di- vision, which involved issues that are rele- vant to Hawai‘i law. Mililani’s teams have been coached by attorney Eileen Nims of the firm Eileen M.S. Nims, Esq. LLC since 2013.
