s spring cleaning gets underway, the Hawai‘i Lions asked people to look through dresser drawers
and closets for used eyeglasses and hearing aids, and donate them to the Lions Recycle For Sight program.
Hawai‘i Lions collect eyeglasses year- round, and on Jan. 21, members of the Mil- ilani Lions Club were out in force receiving unwanted eyewear at Mililani Walmart.
The glasses will be distributed to those in need within developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible. According to the organization, in countries such as Afghanistan, Samoa and the Philip- pines, an eye exam can cost as much as one month’s wages, and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people. In addition to the eyeglasses, hear- ing aids were also collected, cleaned and test- ed for distribution.
Glasses may also be placed in specially marked Lions Recycle For Sight collection boxes. Visit hawaiilions.org for locations dis- played on the homepage.
