Parent Child Fair Feb. 1 At Mall

The Windward School District’s annual Parent Child Fair this Saturday at Windward Mall will offer fun as well as useful information, especially for families looking ahead to their child’s entry into kindergarten.

Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at center court, the fair will have hands-on activities (10 a.m. to noon), resources, exhibits, Keiki ID, sensory experiences and much more for adults and keiki to enjoy together. Live entertainment by children’s musical groups is planned from 12:15 to 2 p.m. The free event highlights the importance of early learning, and the parent’s role as a child’s first teacher.

Also at the fair, parents can register their keiki early for kindergarten next fall. Take note that the DOE age policy changes this summer: A child must be 5 years old on or before July 31 to enter kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year.

The fair is sponsored by Kamalapua o Koolau, a nonprofit housed in the Windward District office that promotes early learning from Sunset Beach to Waimanalo. Led by Phyllis Ida, the group is comprised of volunteers from several agencies that assist families of young children.
