Orchestra Visits Pearl City This Sunday

The Oahu Civic Orchestra is coming to West Oahu this weekend, offering a free concert to the public at 4 p.m. Sunday at Pearl City Cultural Center.

On the program is Wagner’s Die Meistersinger Overture, Copland’s Appalachian Spring, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and more, including the Hawaii Ecumenical Chorale performing The Majesty and Glory of Your Name and directed by Aaron Mahi.

The volunteer community orchestra, conducted this night by Grant Okamura, was founded in 1972 as the Windward Symphony Orchestra, and it’s on a mission to enrich and support all musicians who want to develop and enjoy their musical skills – to the community’s benefit as well.

The cultural center is located at the top of Waimano Home Road by Pearl City High School. The orchestra also will perform at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Church in Kailua.
