When Parker Moosman moved to Hawaii in 2008 with wife Ali, a Kailua girl and owner of Olive boutique, he noticed there weren’t too many places for men to shop in Kailua. So when space opened up a couple of doors down from Olive, the couple took it and opened Oliver Men’s Shop, offering a great selection of men’s T-shirts, boardshorts, aloha shirts and accessories.

“I’m a jeans and T-shirt kinda guy,” says Moosman, 32. “I want to stock Oliver with classic pieces (not trendy or fashion-forward pieces) that will stay in your closet for a long time. It’s a small shop, but I pack it full of quality goods at a reasonable price. And everything fits Island living.”

Some of the brands you’ll find at Oliver are Aloha Sunday, T.C.S.S., Scotch & Soda, M. Nii, Lightning Bolt, as well as a great assortment of jewelry by local designers and fun “guy stuff” such as Whisky Stones, flasks and vintage belts.

“I am bringing in a couple of really fun lines that haven’t had much exposure in Hawaii, such as Deus ex Machina, Quality Peoples and Freedom Artists,” adds Moosman, who was born and raised in Spokane, Wash., and resides in Lanikai. “Also, our Oliver logo tee has been so popular, I’m working on a couple more fun designs.

“I like to think that I have something for everyone, not just for men. I have unisex clothing, candles, bags, skin care from Ursa Major, wallets, keychains, iPhone cases, classic toothpaste from Marvis and more.”

Moosman, who spent his 20s in Seattle playing piano for a living, also is working on an Oliver CD featuring a compilation of cover songs by a local musician. “It’s really fun, classic songs, redone with a more island feel,” he explains.

Oliver Men’s Shop is located at 49 Kihapai St. in Kailua. For more information, call 261-6587 or visit oliverhawaii.com.
