Museum Offers Flight School

Pacific Aviation Museum has a number of educational events suitable for keiki and their families.

Open Cockpit Day runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Hangar 79, and guests can try on flight suits and helmets, and sit in the cockpit of one of several historic aircrafts for photo opportunities — bring your camera!

NASA project director Walter Klein will speak about the organization’s advancements in spacecraft and aeronautics at 1 p.m., in celebration of NASA’s 100th anniversary.

Ticket information is available at pacificaviationmuseum.org.

Also coming up this summer are flight school opportunities for boys and girls.

Flight School for Boys hosts two sessions June 9-11 and 23-25 for students in grades 6-8.

Flight School for Girls, also for students in grades 6-8, runs June 16-18.

Hands-on activities highlight the classes, which cover history and technology in aviation.

Cost for both flight schools is $155 for museum members and $175 for nonmembers. Included in the flight school cost are all materials, snacks, lunches and a flight school T-shirt.
