Marimed Course Aids Maritime Jobs Search

Aiming to train qualified adults for “good jobs that support healthy families and strong communities,” Marimed Foundation has just graduated 20 men and women from its Maritime Careers Exploration program and will launch its next class July 1.

The five-week course meets in Kaneohe and Kahaluu from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and is free or at low cost to qualified applicants, with emphasis on Native Hawaiians. It covers a wide variety of shore-and ship-based job skills with hands-on activities, sailing, field trips and a five-day finale: a voyage around the Islands aboard Marimed’s own tall ship, the SSV Makani Olu.

Applications are available at marimed.org. Prospective students also may call Jodie at 380-9971 or email jodie.yim@marimed.org.
