Maori Performing Arts Leap Onto PCC Stage

The iconic haka returns to Polynesian Cultural Center this weekend in a big way for the annual Te Manahua Maori Performing Arts Competition.

Four troupes from New Zealand join local and international performers on two stages over three days:

* The Haka Hard and Poi E Competition is at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gateway restaurant and special events venue.

* Two of New Zealand’s top female vocalists, Maisey Rika and Ria Hall, perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Gateway.

* The Maori Performing Arts Competition begins at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Pacific Theater.

Tickets to Thursday and Saturday’s competitions cost $10 for adults, $6 for keiki ages 5 to 11. Tickets to Friday’s concert cost $15. Kamaaina annual pass holders get in free to all events.
