Making Solar An Easier Option

By Andrew Yani
Founder & Principal of Bonterra Solar

There are a lot of solar companies in Hawaii, and most are looking for an edge over the competition. At Bonterra Solar, our focus is to give our customers an edge over high electricity prices.

Since founding Bonterra in 2009 with several supporting partners, our focus has been to do the best job we can for our customers. Our philosophy is not to look at homeowners who use our services just as customers, but as partners in a grand effort to harvest the bounty of the sun and improve the lives of Hawaii families. As a result, we make sure we are using the best photovoltaic (PV) panels and materials available. We receive our materials straight from the state-of-the-art, 97-acre SolarWorld manufacturing facility in Oregon. The materials are all American-made, and we’re one of SolarWorld’s certified installers.

We then make sure we have the most experienced team of engineers, contractors and installers – people with strong ties to the Islands – to get solar systems running at homes and businesses. We handle all the paperwork and permitting from start to finish. We work with American Savings Bank to offer customers a variety of easy financing options. Then we back up our installation with an ironclad warranty.

We show homeowners and business owners how the system works, and we’re always available to answer questions after the installation.

We are the installer of PV systems on new homes built by Gentry Homes, and we were chosen by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands to be the solar installation company for Kaupuni Village, the first net-zero energy community in the nation.

And for those who can’t afford a solar system, we reach out through Habitat For Humanity and install a solar hot-water system at no cost. They’re part of our ohana, too.

Bonterra means “Good Earth.” Our goal and philosophy is to treat our customers with aloha and treat the Earth as the special place it is. That’s all the edge we need.
