Magic Show Celebrates Three Years On Koolau Center Stage

A unique partnership between a dentist and his landlord is now three years old, and Koolau Magic Theatre plans a special anniversary showcase of its “Ohana Magic Live!” to mark the occasion at 7 p.m. Friday at Koolau Center.

“We truly never expected to be around this long, so it’s exciting,” said Dr. David Brown of Temple Valley Dental Group, who turns into The Great Davidio after hours.

His monthly magic shows with colleagues have been drawing a full house of fans in the theater they’ve created from an unrented space by his clinic in the shopping center (near Times). It seats 50 people and is decked out with a stylish stage, curtain and lights.

A Kaneohe resident, Brown performs there monthly with magician Harvey “Mr. O” Ouchi, illusionist Aaron Vermeer and other special guests. The big three are on the show bill this weekend, and balloon animals will start popping up at 6 p.m. outside the venue.

“The show is 90 minutes of fun, laughs, magic, mystery and illusion for the whole family,” promised Brown, who started the shows when he saw a need for more keiki entertainment in the community.

“It’s one of the few places on the Windward side where a family can get live entertainment at its best for a reasonable price,” added Ouchi, a DOE teacher and past Big Brother of the Year.

Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children 12 and under, with a $2 discount for advanced purchases at 239-6711 (the dental office).
