Literacy Training Set For Waipahu Tutors

According to Hawaii Literacy, one in six adults in Hawaii has difficulty reading or writing.

If you’d like to join in Hawaii Literacy’s efforts to reduce that number, now is your chance. Its Adult Literacy Program will conduct a four-session training course, beginning with an orientation from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Waipahu Civic Center.

The first training session will begin immediately after orientation and runs until 5 p.m. The other classes will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 and 21, and Nov. 4.

The course is designed to train tutors to work with students to increase their reading and writing abilities In its adult literacy program, Hawaii Literacy offers one-on-one tutoring for basic reading and writing skills.
