Lions Collect School Supplies

Wahiawa Lions Club is collecting donations of school supplies to benefit needy children attending Wahiawa area school. Club members will be collecting the items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20 and 27 at Wahiawa Shopping Center near Longs and at Tamura’s Market.

According to the Lions, Wahiawa is the second-poorest area on Oahu. At Wahiawa Elementary School, 82 percent of its students receive free or reduced lunch. Lions Club members are hoping to provide the necessary educational resources.

“Last year we collected nearly 700 pounds of supplies and more than $1,700,” said Wahiawa Lions president Frank Pavao. “With the community’s support, we hope to do even better this year.”

Supplies needed includes No. 2 pencils, ballpoint pens, 3-hole wide-ruled binder paper, portfolios with inside bottom pockets, bar and pencil-top erasers, glue, paper towels, napkins, facial tissue, liquid soap, crayons, colored pencils, markers, watercolor paint sets, Marble composition books, Sharpie permanent black markers, yellow highlighters, manila folders and 5- to 6-inch Fiskars scissors.
