Lanikai Stages Gala For Stage

Lanikai Elementary Public Charter School marks its 50th anniversary Feb. 22 at Vintage Lanikai Gala Auction and Wine Tasting from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Proceeds will help fund a badly needed stage for performing arts and school assemblies. Throughout its half century, explained PCNC Espie Chapman, the school has had no place where all students could meet at the same time – though blueprints for a stage are as old as the school. Building a stage around the campus banyan tree is the goal for now, she said, as the school ohana works with its lawmakers on a permanent solution.

Sponsored by Buzz’s Original Steakhouse and E&J Gallo Winery, the gala offers heavy pupus, wine, beer and an auction with items ranging from Disneyland tickets and artwork to a Joe Namath-autographed football.

Tickets cost $50 until Feb. 14. For more information, call 266-7844 or visit lanikaischool.com/vintage.

A hoolaulea May 2 will conclude the school’s golden anniversary, and alumni and former staff are especially invited to attend.
