Kupuna Care Training At KCC

Recognizing the need to prepare families for serious caregiving duties – and perhaps to recruit a few workers to the growing industry – Kupuna Care Center will launch a course May 31 in Kupuna@Home Training at Kapiolani Community College.

Those interested must attend a free information session at 5 p.m. May 6 in Kapiko #242 at Kapiolani Community College. The meeting will provide dates and times for training, and details on fees and low-cost tuition loans available for the course. For more information, call 734-9108.

According to center director Cullen Hayashida, an increasing number of families must jump into care-giving roles as their aging relatives are discharged from hospitals. “Family members have so little time to plan, and often do not know what services to call upon for help,” Hayashida said. “This challenge grows every day.”

He noted that eldercare is “projected to be the second fastest growing occupation in the country between now and 2020.”
