KIS Hosts Workshops For Parents Of Teens

Kailua Intermediate School will host a complex-wide series of parent workshops beginning tonight (Sept. 18) designed to help parents communicate with their teenagers in a way that will help them through school and social hurdles in their lives.

Parent and education consultant PJ Foehr will lead the free sessions, which start at 6:30 p.m. the school library and are open to all families in the Kailua-Kalaheo School Complex. For more information, call 263-1500. An informal ohana coffee hour will serve as a follow-up for each workshop in Room H-21b so that families can ask questions and connect with Foehr and each other.

The schedule is below.

* Workshop No. 1, Sept. 18 – “Making Sure I Am Heard at School, What To Do and What to Say When a Problem Arises!” Parents will get to practice techniques, have clear examples modeled for them, and receive a pamphlet to guide them through the process. (Ohana hour at 8:15 a.m. Oct. 1.)

* Workshop No. 2, Oct. 23 – “Taking the Initial Step: Realizing I Am Not the Only Parent in this Situation!” (Ohana hour at 8:15 a.m. Oct. 29.)
