On Thursday, Karen Sakihama needed some groceries and saw there were some good specials at Safeway, so she took a trip to the store on Pali Highway. As she made her purchase at 2:15 p.m., MidWeek’s representative approached Karen with a simple question.

She answered correctly and instantly won a $150 Safeway shopping spree.

“I like shopping at Safeway because it’s convenient and they do have good deals,” said this week’s Mystery Shopper, a retired deputy district director for U.S. Small Business Administration. “Also, the staff is friendly.”

Karen was born and raised in Nuuanu, and graduated from McKinley High School in 1963. Her hobbies include dancing hula, Zumba, yoga and learning to play the Okinawan sanshin. She also likes to read MidWeek’s.

“It has a lot of interesting articles and it’s very informative,” she said. “I like the events calendar, and I like to read Ron Nagasawa’s column.”
