Kapolei Girls Soccer Team Setting Sights On State Title

“Businesslike” is the term that describes the typical Kapolei girls soccer practice. That approach was never more evident than last week for midfielder Kelli Fryxell and her teammates as they looked to put their disappointing loss to Kaiser in the OIA tournament firmly behind them.

“We were really upset we lost and that we didn’t get first place in the OIA,” Fryxell said. “We’re fired up now. We don’t like losing. We’re very, very ready for states. I think we can make it to the championship game if we work our butts off and never give up.”

Kapolei enters this week’s Division I state championships with an 11-2 mark, having only been defeated by Campbell and Kaiser. Fryxell is one of the big reasons why, as she helps anchor one of the state’s best defenses. She recently took some time away from the prac-tice field and her studies to visit with MidWeek‘s West Oahu Islander.
