Kaiser Clinics Accepting Expired, Unneeded Drugs

Kaiser Permanente is partnering with the State Attorney General’s office for Drug Take-Back Days to allow the public to properly dispose of unneeded or expired medications.

The Kaiser Kahuku Clinic will join this effort from 9 a.m. to noon next Monday (April 16) at 58-117 Pualalea St. Also participating in Windward Oahu is the Koolau Clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. April 17 in Kaneohe and the Kailua Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon April 18 on Hamakua Drive.

The program is designed partly to prevent drug abuse. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has found that unused medication in the household may contribute to growing rates of prescription drug abuse, particularly among teenagers.

Also, improper disposal (flushing down toilets or tossing in the trash) can contaminate surface water, ground water and biosolids.
