Kailua Satellite City Hall To Close Sept. 30

The city is losing a satellite, but unlike NASA, the move is considered fiscally prudent.

Kailua Satellite City Hall will close permanently at 4 p.m. Sept. 30, and its staff will be relocated to vacant positions at other full-service locations “to decrease the wait time for the public,” said Sheri Kajiwara, Department of Customer Services director. She noted that the Keolu Shopping Center site is the victim of the city’s projected budget shortfall.

The Kailua center was found to average 16 customers per hour, Kajiwara explained, which compares to much higher numbers at other sites – and it’s just six miles from the full-service satellite at Windward City Shopping Center. Kailua and Waimanalo residents also are encouraged to use online services and the mail whenever possible.
