Horseshoe Tourney In Kahala

The University of Hawaii Wahine Sand Volleyball Booster Club will host an inaugural Portuguese Horseshoe Tournament Sept. 8 at Hunakai Park in Kahala to raise funds for its upcoming third season in an NCAA emerging sport.

The event runs from 2:30 to 6 p.m. and will feature meet-and-greets with players and coaches, beach volleyball demonstrations, heavy pupus and drinks, prizes and the tournament itself. The Portuguese horseshoe game involves large metal washers pitched at holes in boxes; rules are similar to the real horseshoe game.

Fee is $125 per player, $200 per two-person team, or $50 to be on the wahine cheer squad. Make checks payable to University of Hawaii Foundation/Sand Volleyball and mail to the Women’s Sand Volleyball Office, 1337 Lower Campus Road, Honolulu, HI 96822.

Proceeds will help pay for hosted home tournaments. For more information, call Danny Alvarez at 394-7650.
