Ho‘ohuli Spills The Beans About Cooking

Radasha Ho‘ohuli, Miss Hawaii USA 2006, hails from Nanakuli. I have been friends with Radasha for about 15 years.

When I asked her to be on the show, she replied, “I don’t cook!”

So I asked her to make something that she grew up eating, something that she considered her comfort food.

After some coaxing, she agreed to join Cooking Hawaiian Style and make one of her favorites.

HOT DOGS WITH PORK AND BEANS

• 1 package hot dogs
• 1 tablespoon oil
• 2 cans pork and beans
• 1/2 round onion, slivered
• 1/2 cup brown sugar

Boil hot dogs in a small pot with 1/4 cup of water for about 5 minutes. Remove hot dogs from pot and cut diagonally into 1-inch pieces; set aside. Cut onions into slivers.

Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon oil on medium-high heat. Add onions and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Add hot dogs and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add pork and beans and brown sugar to pan. Reduce heat to medium and cook, covered, for 10 minutes and serve!
