Hearing Set On Marsh Plan Permit

City planners will conduct a public hearing next week on the Kawainui marsh restoration project.

The hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 30 at Kailua District Park to address the Special Management Area permit application required to begin the long-awaited work. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources, along with its agent Helber, Hastert & Fee Planners Inc., will outline the plans to restore the wetland, control erosion, reforest the upland areas, restore habitat for native waterbirds and improve support for maintenance operations.

The land area covers about 80 acres of the marsh. For more information, call city planner Blake La Benz at 768-8016.
