Hanauma Talks On Marsh, Opihi, Reef

Hanauma Bay Education Program offers free public lectures by local experts and research affiliates this month on a variety of topics to get the community involved.

Each Sunday talk begins at 3 p.m. in the education alcove classroom at the nature pre- serve. For details, call 397- 5840. The remaining topics are listed below.

May 10 — “Opihi: Our Project in Hawaii’s Intertidal” with Joanna Philipoff of UH- Manoa

• May 17 — “Laulima A ‘Ike Pono: Working together toward a collective vision — community research creating community access” with Judy Lemus, Paepae ‘o He‘eia, Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology

• May24 — “Eyes ofthe Reef: Connecting scientists, resource managers and the community” with Amanda Shore, UH Manoa and HIMB

• May 31 — Kawainui Marsh research and restoration with Jim Cogswell of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
