Cooking, Singing And Laughing With Kaleo

Kaleo Pilanca adds chicken broth to his Hamburger Watercress Kaleo Pilanca is one of the funniest guys I know. He is truly Mr. Aloha and the life of the party.

We spent many years on stage, on the radio and in front of the barbecue.

Funnyman Pilanca and Lanai share a laugh in the kitchen

This Hawaiian-Filipino guy can cook a great sabao or soup and entertain you at the same time.

One of his simplest recipes, hamburger water-cress, is one of those comfort foods you must have once in a while.

HAMBURGER WATERCRESS

* 1 pound ground beef
* 2 bunches watercress, chopped
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 2 cups chicken broth
* 1 cup shoyu (soy sauce)
* salt and pepper, to taste
* cooking oil

Heat oil in pan and add garlic to hot oil. Add ground beef and brown. Remove excess fat. Cut watercress into bite-sized pieces and add to pot. Stir ingredients in pot, adding soy sauce and chicken broth. I usually like to add enough broth to cover the ground beef and watercress, and add the shoyu to taste, starting with 1/4 cup and adding more as necessary. Simmer and serve over hot rice!
