Gallery Puts Millennial Attitude ‘Into View’

The millennial generation often gets a bad rap from their elders as being selfish and self-absorbed.

That’s precisely the attitude that Into View: An Exhibition of Narcissists, which runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 27 at Gallery ‘Iolani, aims to address.

Featured artists include Jake Boggs, Andrea Charuk, Jan Dickey, Jordan Harrison, Neilson Ishida, Alina Kawai, Laura Konecne, Kalani Largusa, Eric Ricky Allen Peters, Landon Tom, Lauren Trangmar and Andrew Yamauchi — all of whom were born in the early 1980s to mid-’90s.

“This generation is ubiquitously defined as ‘deluded,’ ‘narcissistic’ and ‘entitled.’ Into View endeavors to deepen the understanding of who millennial artists are, what their concerns may be, and whether or not they embrace, reject or otherwise feel ambivalently toward being labeled as ‘narcissists,'” stated curators Erika Enomoto and Shulang Zou.

An opening reception from 4 to 7 pm. Friday (Jan. 30) features a DJ set from Ohtoro.

The gallery, located at Windward Community College on 45-720 Kea‘ahala Road, is open Sunday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, call 236-9155.
