Funds Ready To Help Train Nurse Assistants

Ninety students can receive partial scholarships for the Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training Program, thanks to a $49,500 grant from Walmart Foundation’s Hawaii State Giving chapter.

Funds will allow under-privileged Hawaii residents to take the training at a reduced cost (normally $1,340 for 130 hours) at Hawaii Red Cross headquarters on 4155 Diamond Head Road.

The training covers skills in CPR, infection control, bathing techniques, range of motion exercises and other team-building strategies.

The course is split between the classroom and practical experience in a healthcare facility. Graduates then qualify to take the state Certified Nurse Aide exam.

Interested applicants must attend an informational session (held at 9 a.m. each Tuesday at Hawaii Red Cross) before registering.
