Friday Party To Open PCC Hukilau Markets

Back-in-the-day comes to the modern day with the free public opening of Hukilau Marketplace at Polynesian Cultural Center with a free party Friday.

Aloha Friday Hukilau Bash runs from 6 to 10 p.m. with music by Vaihi at 6, Mana‘o Company at 6:30 and a fireknife street battle at 8. Free food (beef stew, rice, manapua, pake cake and soda) will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Billed as “a vibrantly vintage gathering destination,” the new marketplace requires no park admission. It includes more than 40 new dining and retail shops, such as Aunty Emily’s Polynesian Bakery (meat pies, malasadas), Roulotte Court (Tahiti-inspired street eats), Tutu’s Sweet Shop, Kawika’s Koolers (smoothies, acai bowls), Laie General Store, Hapa Home store and Jaseboards (skateboards).

Chef Sean Priester is in charge at the new Pounders Restaurant.
