Freedom Run Is July 4 In Kailua For Epilepsy

Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii’s 11th annual Freedom Run starts at 7 a.m. July 4 at Kailua High, offering a one-mile walk, and a 5K and 10K run around Enchanted Lake and back.

Net proceeds from the race will support the nonprofit foundation’s educational and informational services, with a mission to “lead the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy.” More than 15,000 people in Hawaii have the disorder.

Fee is $30 at active.com, with no T-shirt guarantee. Family rate is $70 for up to five runners. Late packets can be picked up between 6 and 6:30 a.m. race day morning at the school. For details, call the foundation office at 528-3058 or Ed Kemper at 524-0330.

The first male and female winner in each run will receive trophies; age class finishers get ribbons. There also will be random prize drawings. About 300 runners are expected.
