Folk-Rock Pioneer At Turtle Bay

Singer, songwriter and guitarist supreme Richard Thompson returns to Hawaii after a four-year absence with a solo performance March 28 at Surfer, the Bar at Turtle Bay Resort.

Named the 69th best guitarist in rock history, Thompson is a founding member of folk-rock band Fairport Convention, whose songs has been covered by Bonnie Raitt, R.E.M., Los Lobos, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant and others.

Of Thompson’s playing, Rolling Stone wrote, “His electric-guitar solos, rooted less in blues than in Celtic music, can be breathtaking, but his acoustic picking is just as killer.”

Thompson will perform songs from his dual 2014 releases, Thompson Family and Acoustic Classics.

Tickets cost $45 and started selling Feb. 1 at brownpapertickets.com and Surf ‘n’ Sea, Haleiwa.
